At Portland Face Doctor Dr. David Magilke’s plastic surgery practice, patients have several options for rejuvenating the eyes. Two of the most popular treatments for aged and tired eyes are eyelid surgery and brow lift. In some cases, the two surgical procedures can be combined to achieve more youthful and natural-looking results. If you wish to rejuvenate the eyes but are unsure whether eyelid surgery, brow lift or both procedures can help you get your desired look, Dr. Magilke would like to help. In this blog post, the trusted plastic surgeon discusses what each procedure accomplishes.

About Brow Lift

Over time, the skin on the forehead can loosen and sag. In some cases, the skin can droop so low that it can hood the upper eyelids. Brow lift can remove excess skin and raise the remaining skin on the forehead, creating a more youthful and alert appearance. Brow lift can also reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the brow and the lines between the eyebrows.

Brow lift may be appropriate if you have:

  • Noticeable wrinkles and creases on the forehead
  • “Eleven” lines in between the eyebrows
  • Sagging skin on the brow bone

About Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery works by reducing or eliminating excess, loose skin on the upper eyelids, as well as lines and wrinkles and puffy skin on the lower eyelids. Although the procedure is commonly performed for cosmetic purposes, eyelid surgery can also be performed for medical reasons. Eyelid surgery becomes medically necessary when the stretched-out skin on the upper lids droops so low that it hangs over the eyelashes and obstructs the line of sight.

Eyelid surgery may be right if you have:

  • Loose, drooping skin on the upper eyelids
  • Skin sitting on the eyelashes
  • Impaired vision due to heavy, sagging upper eyelid skin
  • Lines and wrinkles on the lower eyelids
  • Puffy, under eye bags

Combining the Two Procedures

The biggest benefit to combining procedures is that, in many cases, patients can enjoy more balanced and natural-looking results. By treating the facial signs located in both the brow and upper eyelids, Dr. Magilke can restore a more youthful appearance to the upper facial area. For more complete results, Dr. Magilke may recommend combining eyelid surgery and/or brow lift with facelift surgery or an injectable treatment.
