Excellence in Training

After graduating with distinction in research from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, he completed residency training in Head and Neck Surgery at the prestigious Washington University in St. Louis, one of the top training programs in the United States.

After this, he was selected for a highly coveted fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Northwestern University, certified by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), where he was trained by global leaders in the field of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

With over 40 peer-reviewed publications in national and international journals and having written several book chapters, Dr. Vila has extensive experience in field-advancing research. Dr. Vila was awarded a highly competitive Doris Duke Clinical Research Foundation Grant in medical school during his residency training. He was also granted a T32 research fellowship from the National Institutes of Health. As part of his research career, he has given numerous lectures around the country to an international audience.

An Established Leader

Dr. Vila has significant leadership experience, having served in numerous leadership positions at national organizations. He is grateful to have been elected the Chair of the Section for Residents and Fellows of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS).

For these efforts, the AAO-HNS awarded him the Holt Leadership Award in 2018. He also previously served as the President of the Student Council at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Culturally Experienced

Born in Miami, FL, Dr. Vila has lived all over the United States, including the Midwest and New York City. Before starting his medical career, he strongly considered a career in music performance but was drawn to the elegance of science and healing others.

Art remains an integral part of his life, as music and photography continue to function as significant hobbies outside of work, and he uses his artistic inclinations to ensure his patients get the best aesthetic results possible. Se habla Español.

Dedicated to Helping Others

Philanthropy has always been a vital part of Dr. Vila’s practice. He’s led and participated in several mission trips to San Pedro Sula, Honduras, as part of Medical Students Making Impacts. As one of the sole Spanish speakers on the trip, he was able to help coordinate several week-long trips to provide much-needed treatment to a desperately impoverished population.
